White-faced Saki

is a type of New World monkey, found in Brazil and the northern part of South America. This species lives in the lower canopy of the forest, feeding mostly on fruits, but also eating nuts, seeds and insects.
When I visited the new Tropics (rain forest) at the K C Zoo last Saturday, the Sakis put on the best show. The Tropics is a great addition to the zoo--plenty to see close by--animals separated from the public only by a thick glass. There are some interesting comments on the walls, explaining the relationship between the various plants and snimals, and the role of each. I was impressed by the role of the predators: "Control the number of animals." I guess it is intended that animals (including man) eat other animals. And speaking of survival--I was just now forwarded a fascinating movie showing a cougar pursuing a bear cub. This can be seen at www.flixxy.com/game-of-survival
