Kentucky Derby

What a finish! In the stretch, Mine That Bird passed the other horses as if they were standing still. I am reminded of the one Derby that I witnessed. It was in 1942. I was in Louisville with another Counter Intelligent Agent from Ft. Hayes, OH. Our mission was to check on any private railroad cars in the yards at Louisvillle. It was against the law to come there in a private railroad car. But there were plenty. We took time out to attend the race. We were in the middle of a large crowd in the center of the field. We had two glancing views, looking thru the crowd. One, right after the start, and another as the horses were coming down the stretch. But we had to leave before the results were announced, and we didn't learn that Shut Out had won until we were speading away from the tracks.
