Springfield, Illinois

In Springfield, Jan and I enjoyed the most: the Lincoln Home, where the family lived from 1844 to 1861; the Lincoln Museum; the Old Capitol; and Lincoln's law offices. Picture 13 on our pictures website is a photo of the Republican Rally on Aug. 8, 1860. 80,000 people crowded the state capital. In the picture a parade is passing the Lincoln home. Abe is on the front porch in a white suit. Wife Mary is looking out from the left first story window; son Willie is on the second floor, leaning out from the second window from the left. A parade float is carrying 33 young women, dressed in white. They represesnt the 33 states of the Union in 1860. Behind the float is a buggy carrying one young woman, representing the territory of Kansas, and the sign by her buggy says, "Won't you let me in?"
Picture 22 shows the General Assembly room where Lincoln served as a Representative from 1834 to 1842. A stove pipe hat is sitting on Lincoln's desk.
