Not in Ten Years
Al Gore has challenged America to produce 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly carbon-free sources within 10 years. Gore compared his challenge to that of President Kennedy in 1961 in issuing the challenge to send a man to the moon and return him safely within 10 years. But there is a difference between now and then. Taking into account inflation, our Public Debt is now seven times as large as in 1961. Our Public Debt is now 9.6 TRILLION dollars and the projected deficit for the current fiscal year is predicted to hit 389 billion dollars. We have a war going on, and our treasury will be strained by the pressing needs in the felds of healthcare, social security, medicare and education. The nation's poor financial situation is important because Gore's dream could not be fulfilled without tremendous all out effort in the way of subsidies and tax credits. Gore's challenge is a worthy one, and some day it will be realized, but not in 10 years.
