This is a bronze work of George Segal, renowned sculptor, located near the north entrance to the museum. This morning at Nelson I viewed a featured exhibit, comprised of some 13 sculptures of Segal, entitled Street Scenes.
Since I could not take a picture inside, I came up with this picture, taken several years ago. This is a very interesting exhibit, which is on display until August 2, and is free to members of the museum. Mayor Funkhouser should also like the exhibit, because it features the ordinary man. For instance, "Bus Passengers" depicts six passengers in close proximity, as if riding on a bus. Three are standing and three are sitting. They are strangers--each lost in thought--but sharing a small space together. It has been said that Segal's primary subject is "the psychological complexity of ordinary people." To me, the exhibit raises the philosophical question, What is Life?
The boy in the pink shirt in my photo will be the subject of my Monday Morning Blog.
