Poinsettias

Here are the Grace Gardens in Lawrence, KS, where we get our beautiful poinsettias each year. Poinsettias were introduced in the U. S. in 1825 by Joel Robert Poinsett, first U. S. ambassador to Mexico, who obtained plants from the wilds of Southern Mexico. In the home, a plant should preferrably be placed by a sunny window where the temperature is 65 to 70 degrees, and then removed to a cooler place at night. And, according to Ohio State U. Horticulture Science, you should examine the soil daily and when the surface is dry to the touch, you should water the soil until it runs freely out of the drainage hole in the container. But , if in a saucer, you should empty the water so the plant is not standing in water. But it is my suggestion, Forrest, that you don't let these rules interfere with your enjoyment of the beauty of your plant.
