No--The British are not coming--the Regulars are coming--we learned in the class on the Revolutionary War taught by David Gobel at the Charleston Elderhostel. The colonists did not fight from behind trees, but rather fought in ranks just like the British, because the muskets both sides used were very inaccurate and formations were necessary for effectiveness. Anyhow, it was the bayonets that were more feared than the guns. David, a reenactor with His Majesty's 64th Regiment of Foot held the members of his classes spell-bound, as he told about the dress and the life of the British soldiers and of the important battles that were fought in South Carolina. David's great love for reenacting and for the 18th century were self-evident. You'll find no better presenter than David. For each of his five classes he wore a different uniform, and in this order: (1) A civilian (as shown in this picture); (2) a Private in the British Army; (3) a Private in the South; (4) a British Lieutenant in full dress;
(5) a British Lieutenant in battle dress. Pictures of these, in this order, can be seen at Picasaweb.google.com/larryrsmith8
