Larry Marsh
Econometrics (ee KOHN uh MEH trix) is a new word that I learned last night from Larry Marsh, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Economics and Econometrics, University of Notre Dame, who lives right here in river city. This term has been defined as the use of mathematical and statistical methods in the field of economics to verify and develop economic theories. Economics was one of my majors in college. It was and still is anything BUT an exact science. There is so much confusion in what strategies are best to improve the economy. Mathematics deals with exactness. Maybe applying the principles of mathematics to economics will help bring about a little certainty as to the role of government in dealing with our financial jungle.
