The Kansas City Zoo is in trouble. Zoo director Randy Wisthoff stated on March 26 that a cut of $600,000 from the city budget for the zoo could force the closure of the African forest section and the shipping out of the four gorillas there. The $600,00 cut was made yesteday by the Kansas City Council. Randy, formerly with the great Omaha zoo, is doing an outstanding job in upgrading our zoo. We cannot afford to lose him or the gorillas. We can all help and show our support by contributions to FOTZ (Friends of the Zoo), which is running the zoo. I urge all of my friends to join FOTZ, and if you are already a member, by making a further contribution in the amount of your annual membership fee (which I did yesterday).
