Public Library

Many of us are not taking full advantage of our free public libraries.
A wonderful place to browse thru the new books as well as the old classics; to read magazines; to check out CDs of music and adventure. And a place to use a computer for free. Many branches have classes on computers. I was in the Plaza branch of the KCMO library system last Friday. It has about 40 computers available for public use. It is so spacious--with tremendous views of the Plaza area thru walls of glass to the West, North and East. I have enrolled in 3 classes in the month of February--on Computer Basics, Internet Basics and Microsoft Word Basics.

Another note about the library: you can check out DVDs of TV shows and movies for a lot less money than at Blockbuster or even Netflix. Regular movies are $1 for a week. You can also become a "Friend of the Library" (in KCMO) for $25 a year and then movies are free(one at a time, but you can get one every day if you want). Although it takes longer to get the newest movies, you can reserve the ones you want online and be notified by email when your movie arrives for pickup.

A great convenience,if you have a computer at home: you can check on the internet to learn if the library system has a particular book, or has it on order, and you can place a hold on it and request that it be delivered to a branch of your choice. You can also renew on the internet. Larry
