Organ and Piano

This commentary was precipitated by listening to a performance on the organ yesterday noon at Red Bridge United Methodist Church by our choir director Bob Goodin. Most larger churches used to have a pipe organ and a piano in their sanctuary. It's not that simple any more. Our church has this Allen electronic organ and sitting next to it is a Yamaha clavinova.. The organ has no pipes and does not use air for sound (as organs used to). Both the organ and clavinova are digital and computerized. So you might conclude the two instruments are the same except as to size. Not true. The organ has a much larger range of sounds and is much more powerful. Not being a musician, that's as far as I can go as to the differences. It's all very confusing, as to the many different types of keyboard musical instruments used today. But what great music !
