Funk, don't veto

Mayor Funkkhouser, without consultation with the City Council, decided to fire City Manager Wayne Cauthen. A very angry council, with strong support from downtown and the community at large, adopted legislation extending Cauthen's contract. The mayor has , until Thursday, the authority to veto this legislation. If he does, it will result in a battle in the council to override the veto and litigation in the courts concerning the authority to fire. And it will cause divisiveness and chaos in our city government until the mayor's term ends or he is impeached.

For the sake of the city, our mayor needs to abide by the will of the council, and make up with the City Manager, so that we are all united in continuing the great surge our wonderful city is now enjoying.
