MUSIC APPRECIATION
Jan enjoys singing and listening to classical music. I like popular music: old time favorites with great melodies, and the jazz band music of the fifties. She has not succeeded in convincing me that classical is more enjoyable than popular. I am finally willing to concede that it might be because of my ignorance in the field of music: never having played an instrument and never having been a member of a choral group. Which brings to mind, that there is a great need for easy courses in music appreciation for geeks like me. Besides learning more about the nature of classical music, it would be helpful to me to do more listening in a relaxed atmosphere, and where I can do more participating by body movement, singing, or making sound with some type of an instrument. Now I associate classical music with dressing up, driving, parking, crowds and sitting still and quiet in a straight chair for a long period.
