CFL bulb breaking

Last night a compact fluorescent light bulb fell from a shelf in our garage and broke. I immediatelly got a broom and swept the broken pieces into a metal dust pan and deposited the pieces in a trash bag. THIS WAS THE WRONG THING TO DO--I later learned, by looking at various articles i found on the internet when I typed in "fluorescent light bulbs broken." There is danger from inhaling the fumes from the wee bit of mercury in an CFL. I urge all of my readers to look at the articles found on the internet. Small children and pregnant women are especially vulnerable. It is questionable if CFL bulbs should be used in a home with a small child or a pregnant woman. On the other hand, people are urged to use CFL bullbs for energy saving. As I have long thought, there is a good side and a bad side to every thing and every action. You can recycle old CFL bulbs at the Home Depot--you don't put them in the trash.
