Same Party

Is it best for the president to be of the same political party as the members of Congress? I have concluded that at the present time, probably yes.
Steve Kraske, in Sunday's Star (B3), cites authority to the effect that other governments not having the separation of powers, can operate more efficiently. In the United Kingdom, the prime minister is chosen from the majority party of the House of Commons. I'm not advocating the elimination of our separation of powers, but there has been so much conflict between the executive and legislative in recent years, that I believe, if the qualifications of our candidates for president are approximately equal, I would go with the candidate that is from the party most likely to control Congress. What do you think?
