Triple Crown?

The surge was sure working yesterday--at Churchill Downs for Big Brown. With that burst of speed toward the finish line, we have to think of the Triple Crown possibility. There will be lots of interest in the Preakness two weeks hence.
This reminds me of the only time I witnessed the Kentucky Derby--in 1942. Another Counter Intelligence Agent and myself from F t. Hayes, OH had the mission to locate and report any private railroad cars that were (illegally) brought into Louisville for the Derby. There were plenty. But the other Agent and myself were able to sneak into the middle of the field at Churchill Downs just before the race commenced. Through a crowd of people I saw the horses run by at the start and again at the Stretch. We hurriedly left before the results were announced and we didn't know who the winner was until we were a mile down the road. But this experience, plus visiting horse farms on Sunday afternoons when stationed at Lexington, KY has kept me very much interested in the race these last 66 years.
