Philadelphia
In yesterday's blog, I stated that all of the 13 colonies were along the East coast. If you are not familiar with the East coast, you might question whether Pennsylvania is on the coast. But it is so considered, because from the high seas you go into Delaware Bay and up the Delaware River just a short distance to the Philadelphia port . Like for all of the other 12 colonies, good access to the sea was vital. Philadelphia is presently one of the nation's busiest freshwater ports. In the 1700s, Philadelphia developed into the largest and wealthiest city in the American Colonies. It was the capital of the colonies. And at Independence Hall, depicted here, United States of America was born.
