Mount Moriah
Last Monday I entered into a prearranged funeral agreement with Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home & Cemetery. Mount Moriah is where my first wife R osemary is buried. Under the plan, I have paid for all the services of the funeral home, and for my cremation, containers, marker, use of the chapel for a memorial service and more. No casket is required. It is comforting to me to know that my survivors will not have to worry about these matters. Mount Moriah is a beautiful place and I feel so very fortunate that it is close to my home. I have frequently walked through their grounds for more than 30 years. It is also very comforting to know that four long-time good friends are buried very close to my lot. Carl Schliffke and his wife Marjorie in the adjoining row of markers. Carl and I were active together in the Junior Chamber of Commerce back in the late 1940s, and he was the anchor man on my bowling team. Dick Petri's gravesite is about 100 yards to the South. Dick and his widow Fran have been members of my support group for the last 20 years and are almost like family to me. About 50 yards to the northwest of my lot is the site where my good friend Don Koncak was buried yesterday. Don and his wife Helen have been neighbors of mine for over 50 years. Because of all of this, I can see some relevance in a humorous remark that my friend Bill Johnson would make as we were driving by a cemetery, "There's a place where people are dying to go."
