Interpretation of the U. S. Constitution
It is laughable to hear the conservative Republicans contend that the U. S. Constitution must always be STRICTLY followed. Were it not for a very liberal interpretation of the Constitution by the conservative judges on the Court, George Bush might not even be in office. In the case of Bush v. Gore, 531 U.S. 98, decided Dec. 12, 2000, the Court by a 5 to 4 vote stopped Florida's attempt to recount alll undervote ballots. The Court had no authority under a strict interpretation of the Constitution to interfere with a matter that should have been left to the state. However, this does not mean that I disagree with the decision. There was a crisis facing our nation and it is an example of where it was necessary for our highest court to act, the constitution be damned, to prevent chaos.
