ELDERHAPPINESS

This is the name of a proposed class for Shepherd's Center Central for the Spring term. It is a 21st century idea to promote the maximum happiness among we elders, taking into account any infirmities that we might have. The format would be informal roundtable; the exchange of ideas; the sharing of little tricks that we might have for making life easier and more enjoyable. For example, one idea that recently came to me: making more phone calls to friends. I'm not up to making dates for tennis or golf; it's a lot of trouble to set up luncheon engagements; and I don't see another man to have coffey. But who can object to a brief phone call from an old friend? (This is taking a page from my wife, who, it seems, is always on the phone.) Another idea I would like to share: making it possible for those not on the computer, to make use of a computer. What is the best simple machine to buy and what is the simplest way to use and maintain? If you don't want to buy a computer, consider going to the nearest library and learning the basics of sending and receiving email, and getting on a website, like this, my blog. And while at the library you might want to consider browsing thru the magazines and books. Other ideas to share: making things at home more conveniient and accessible; and easy fixes for dinner. I'm sure others have great ideas that I have never thought of. Variety and spontaneity would be keynotes of the class. We might want to play a game or discuss a current issue. (If we were in college, you might call the proposed class a bull sessiion).

Let's make living easier and more fun!

If you might be interested in such a class, call my wife.
