Winning

I am afraid Vince Lombardi was right when he said that winning is the only thing. But it shouldn't be that way.. Only about about half of the college and professional football and basketball teams can have winning seasons. Yet, a coach is generally fired if he or she has several losing seasons. Sometimes, just one losing season. You are considered a losing football team if you won your conference, but lost in the Superbowl. How strange this is. And it's only a game. There is entirely too much emphasis on winning. More emphasis should be placed on the joy of each game, both from the standpoint of the participant and the spectator.
I am reminded of the early Olympic games played in Athens. If you won an event, you were your city's hero and you were fixed for life. If you didn't win, even if you came in second, it was best niot to even go home. You were a disgrace. We haven't advanced much in the last 2000 years.
