Pop Singers

On her December 24 show, Oprah had some very interesting pop singers: Carrie Underwood, country music celebrity; Josh Groban, big-time song writer and singer; and 80 year old Tony Bennett. The big differences I noticed as between the two younger ones and Tony: Carrie and Josh sang as if they were in pain and you couldn't undestand their words; whereas Tony, representing the old guard, had a constant big smile, clearly pronouncing the words. He appeared to be thoroughly enjoying every bit of his singing. Carrie and Josh had such anguished looks. It is difficult for me to understand why younger people go more for the groaners than the smilers.
