Arsenals of Folly
This is the name of the new book of Richard Rhodes. Rhodes, from Kansas City, was a Pulitzer Prize winner in 1987. In his book he brings out that USA was way ahead of the Soviet Union in its nuclear missiles, but that unbeknown to us at the time of the Cuban missile crisis: Cuba had missile power capable of wiping out the Southeastern part of the U.S., including Washington, D.C.
We were very close to a nuclear war. In his interview on the Walt Bodine show on December 5 he explains the present crisis concerning nuclear warheads, but that a group is working on a plan that could eventually eliminate nuclear missiles. This was a very interesting interview, which can now be heard on the KCPT web-site. The libraries having waiting lists for the book.
