Democracy in Action
Last Nite I attended Mayor Funkhouser's Town Hall Meeting at Avila University, where around 200 people were in attendance. And later I watched on TV the debate of the Democratic candidates for President. Both did my heart good. The mayor gave a very candid report on several controversial issues, and allowed for free discussion by citizens in attendance. Although the candidates for president didn't get enough into vital issues like social security, medicare and health care, they all entered wholeheartedly in the debate, and with some humor, and gave viewers a good look at what type of president we might be getting. If our nation is to survive as a democracy, we citizens need to get more involved.
